The Effect of Family Care Burden on Depression in Elderly Women and Mediating Effect of Self-Efficacy

Abstract
|

|
Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of family care burden on the depression of elderly women and to examine the mediating effect of self-efficacy in the relationship between family care burden and depression by using 13th Korean Welfare Panel data.
Methods : Data were collected from 3,023 women over 65 years of age among the 13th Korean Welfare Panel data and analyzed using SPSS Statistics 21.0.
Results : The results showed that the family care burden of elderly women had a negative effect on depression, and the self-efficacy had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between family care burden and depression.
Conclusion : Effective measures to prevent and reduce depression of the elderly women need to be established and it is necessary to consider family care burden and self-efficacy as important factors in the process of intervening in depression of elderly women.
